The Florida Keys are a pretty dope road trip out of Miami. Though be warned, the first two hours of driving are through what appears to be small-town Florida. Eventually you break through and see the wide open ocean that's been on either side since you left the tip of the mainland.

On the way there or back, check out some of the local beaches, with warmer, calmer water and perfect white sand. Our pick was Bahia Honda State Park.

Once you get to Key West, hit up old town for a strange mix between New Orleans and the rural south. Narrow streets with french porticos hide tucked away gems. The roosters roaming throughout keep the place a little rough around the edges.
